Springtime books for kids
We at Small Hands Big Dreams preschool Kirtland Ohio love reading! Here are a few of our favorite springtime books to share with your little one.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is a classic story that children love. The story follows the life of a caterpillar who gets bigger and bigger as he eats and eats until he is about to pop! Then he make a cocoon and eventually turns into a beautiful butterfly! Children love to count all of the things that the caterpillar eats. In addition, this is a great book to simply introduce the topic of how butterflies transform.
Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert is a wonderful story about a mother and child who plant a rainbow of flowers and plants in their garden. This is a excellent story to talk about how plants grow as well as a fun way to practice identifying the colors that they plant.
And Then It’s Spring by Julie Fogliano is a wonderful story about a boy and his dog who are sick of the winter weather and cannot wait for the springtime. The story follows them as they plant a garden in anticipation of spring. This is a cute and simple story that is a good jumping off point for talking about what the seasons change and what changes might come from winter turning to spring and summer.
